You have probably noticed these three letters popping up a lot lately – C.B.D. It is found in everything from lotions to coffee and even dog treats. So what’s the big deal with this stuff? Simply put, CBD is a naturally occurring product within the hemp plant that many people find does wonders for a wide range of ailments. It is being widely researched across the world today to discover more information about its magical healing properties, but available data already shows a great deal of promise. Not that long ago, hardly anybody was talking about it. Today, medical patients and researchers alike are demanding more.

To begin, a hemp plant, according to the federal government, was considered to be the same as the cannabis plant known for producing THC (the psychoactive compound known for getting users “high”. Until recently, all plants labeled under the umbrella term “cannabis plant” were deemed illegal and have been that way since 1937 when the Marijuana Tax Act was first drafted. Thirty-three years passed before the government drafted another document banning cannabis of any kind – the Controlled Substance Act of 1970. Because of this suppression, CBD research was extremely limited. That changed recently when the 2018 United States Farm Bill was signed into law, which included a provision known as the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. This document allowed hemp, defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% to be removed from the Schedule 1 controlled substances list. The undeserved label was lifted, and hemp production is now legal nationally.

Cannabidiol Structure

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the flower of a cannabis plant. CBD is a phytocannabinoid that is specific to the plant and has many therapeutic benefits. CBD is a safe, non-addictive, all-natural substance and comes in many different forms such as oils, isolate, and shatter. CBD is the flip side of THC. While THC gets you high, CBD has the opposite effect. As an anti-psychoactive (nonpsychotropic) compound CBD can actually be used to come down from a marijuana high. It helps one’s body clear THC receptors and modulates the effect of THC on the body, meaning it works together with THC to create what's known as the entourage effect

WHAT IS CBN?

CBN is formed after the Cannabis sativa (cannabis) plant is harvested as a degradation product of THC. When THC is exposed to excessive amounts of heat and light (aka oxidation), it turns into a unique metabolite: CBN. Unlike THC, however, CBN does not have psychoactive effects.

WHAT IS CBG

CBG, often referred to by experts as “the mother of all cannabinoids,” is the cannabinoid from which other types of cannabinoids (including CBD) are derived. Like CBD and CBN, CBG is available in many forms, including tinctures, gummies, capsules and topical creams and lotions. CBG is often coupled with CBD in these products because the two cannabinoids can provide complimentary benefits, such as decreasing inflammation and pain, says Fraser Smith, a naturopathic doctor, as well as assistant dean and associate professor at the National University of Health Services in Lombard, Illinois.

What IS Delta 8 THC AND HOW IS IT legal?

Hemp-derived cannabinoids, including Delta 8, are Federally Legal. Made legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, Delta 8 THC products are available for purchase in most states. Delta 8 has properties similar to Delta 9 THC, the most well-known and prevalent type of THC. Delta 8 THC is legally allowed under the 2018 Farm Bill, as it does not fit the definition of marijuana under the Controlled Substance Act and is derived from the legal hemp plant. Delta 8 is currently illegal only Washington, Alaska, North Dakota, Mississippi, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, California, New York, Arizona, Hawaii, Delaware, and Rhode Island.

How IS THCA FLOWER LEGAL?

THCA is THC while it is still wet and in its acid from. When THCA is dried and smoked, it is converted into THC through heat and light. Currently only Delta 9 THC is illegal, leaving THCA legal to ship anywhere as long as it has less than 0.3% delta 9 THC currently present.

WHAT ARE TERPENES?

Terpenes are what give the plant its wonderful, very recognizable smell.  Terpenes are organic hydrocarbons that come from the trichomes of the plant; the most common being myrcene.  Terpenes play an important role while deciding what to buy.  Just follow your nose!

WHAT IS HEMP?

Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a botanical class of Cannabis sativa with less than 0.3% THC present in dried product.

WHAT IS THE ENTOURAGE EFFECT?

This is what it's called when CBD, and other cannabinoids, are working with THC to deliver the plants full potential.  This phenomenon is currently being researched to discover more about the positive impact Cannabinoids has on one's body when combined with THC.

HOW DO I TAKE CANNABINOIDS?

It depends on what product you ultimately decide to choose. Vaping you will feel the effects that fastest while lasting the shortest. Eating cannabinoids will take longer to feel the effects but will last for hours.
